Important Information
Following a thorough investigation into the misuse of College IT systems, we can confirm that an internal, student-to-student Microsoft Teams chat was created by a student.
The chat contained inappropriate terminology and immature language. Following a rapid and comprehensive investigation across our Microsoft Teams network, we can confirm that no images of students were shared and no direct derogatory comments were made about fellow students at Rochdale Sixth Form College. We can also confirm that the chat did not contain any reference to inappropriate conduct involving other students.
As this matter relates to the misuse of College IT systems, the students responsible for creating and administering the chat have been subject to robust disciplinary action in line with College procedures. Those involved will also receive further educational input to reinforce our standards, expectations, and values around respectful behaviour and responsible use of technology.
We have maintained communication with parents and carers throughout this process and would like to thank the students, parents and carers who came forward with information and assisted us with our investigation.
We appreciate that reports and speculation surrounding this matter may have caused concern among students and their families. Please be assured that the College has treated this issue with the utmost seriousness. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our students remain our highest priority, and we will continue to take swift action whenever behaviour falls short of the standards expected within our community.
If you have any further information or concerns, please contact your young person's SPDL in the first instance.
