Our Community

At RSFC we are keen to support the community in which we learn and work. We have developed strong links with local employers, charities and support services. Our Social Development programme, which is a compulsory part of year 12 study is lead by the SPDL team. Over recent years our students have supported, the homeless, the young, the elderly, the Foodbank along with promoting Literacy and the arts in local primary schools.

The Homeless

Students have gained valuable experience volunteering at the local soup kitchen on Drake Street, as well as visiting the local emergency night stop.

During the visit students learnt about the various ways the STEP programme can help people meet basic needs, such as; where to go to get access to food, clothing and accessing valuable support.

Students had the opportunity to meet some previous clients of STEP, people that have accessed emergency homeless provisions in the past. They were able to explain homelessness from their prospective and helped our students understand the complexity of homelessness.

The Elderly

RSFC has joined up with RBH to support the elderly within our community. Students have visited a number of care homes within the Borough to play board games with the residents. Some of our musicians have also visited the care homes to perform at Christmas, bringing some festive cheer.

The Foodbank

One 'Christmas Jumper Day' RSFC students and staff are encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper and bring in a donation to the Rochdale Foodbank. The support from students, staff and parents is phenomenal.
