Learning Support Team

Our Learning Support Team is here to help every student feel confident, supported and ready to succeed at college. We work closely with students, parents and teaching staff to provide personalised support that meets individual needs, whether that’s academic, practical or wellbeing support. From transition into college through to progression beyond year 13, our dedicated team is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

Meet the Learning Support Team

“Working with the Learning Support Team both in and out of lessons really increased my confidence. I also received guidance on effective revision methods, which helped me become a more independent thinker and learner.” Umar Naveed, 2025 Alumnus

Education Health Care Plan (EHCPs)

For students with an EHCP, weekly 1:1 meetings are provided with a Learning Support Officer. In-class support and additional interventions can also be offered, depending on the provision outlined in the plan.

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) & Medical

Bespoke learning profiles are created for students with SEND or medical conditions. In addition, the Learning Support Team helps to implement Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs), and can offer assistance, if needed, when you are moving around the building.

Transition

For students with an EHCP or SEND, we can offer support with transition from school to college. This may include attending your year 11 EHCP reviews or organising a private tour of the college.

In year 13, we can also support your transition to university, such as accompanying you to open days and providing guidance on applications for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).

Access Arrangements

If you had access arrangements during exams at school, such as extra time, use of a word processor, or modified papers, these will be put in place for both in-class assessments and external exams to ensure continuity of support.

Teachers may refer you for an assessment for access arrangements, which is carried out in college to ensure appropriate exam support is put in place in a timely manner.

Study Skills

At college, you will have a mixture of lessons and study periods each day. We can support you to effectively manage your time and use these study periods to complete homework, coursework, and revision. We can also offer advice on study skills and revision techniques.

Achievement Centre

Opening times:

Monday 8:00am – 6:00pm
Tuesday 8:00am – 3:00pm
Wednesday 8:00am – 6:00pm
Thursday 8:00am – 6:00pm
Friday 8:00am – 3:30pm

For students who require a smaller space or prefer to work near to their key LSO, there is a separate room next to the Learning Support Office.

Social Club

For students who prefer a quieter space at lunchtime, a classroom will be available during lunch periods. Students are welcome to eat their lunch, sit quietly, chat with friends, or play a game in a calm and supportive environment. A member of the Learning Support Team will always be present to support students during these sessions.

“The Learning Support Team at RSFC really supported me throughout my time at college, especially with my exam arrangements. I loved going to the Social Club – it’s a welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable, and the games are really fun!” Lily Richards, 2025 Alumna
