Marine Biology Trip 2025

Over May half-term, RSFC year 12 Biology students took part in a field trip to the Field Studies Centre at Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae, Scotland.

At this well-known marine research centre, students developed practical fieldwork and classification skills through sampling on rocky and sandy shores, and while aboard the research vessel Actinia. Wildlife observations in nearby Largs Bay were a highlight, with students spotting seals, porpoises, and a variety of seabirds.

They also explored marine ecosystems, studied natural succession, and applied statistical analysis to the data they collected.

This valuable experience helped students build their scientific knowledge and practical skills in a coastal setting.
