Rochdale Sixth Form College Celebrates 99.2% Pass Rate and Outstanding Student Success

Rochdale Sixth Form College is celebrating another year of exceptional A Level results, reinforcing its status as one of the UK’s top-performing institutions. This year, the College achieved an impressive 99.2% pass rate, with 58% of grades at A*-B and 83% at A*-C.

Of those progressing to higher education, 78% secured their first-choice university place, with 48% gaining places at prestigious Sutton 30 universities, recognised nationally for academic excellence and competitive entry.

These achievements build on the College’s remarkable track record. Consistently rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, Rochdale Sixth Form College has been among the country’s leading post-16 providers since opening in 2010 and was named TES Sixth Form College of the Year in 2021. Ofsted praised the College for fostering a “highly purposeful and productive learning environment that enables students to flourish both academically and personally.”

Principal Karl Smith said:

‘Today marks a moment of celebration and opportunity as we proudly share a truly incredible set of A Level and BTEC results that reflect the ambition, talent, and determination of our students and staff.

This year’s results have opened doors to life-changing opportunities, with many students progressing to some of the most prestigious universities, apprenticeships, and career pathways across the country. From Oxbridge offers to competitive degree apprenticeships and employment opportunities, our students are truly changing their life chances and shaping a bright future.

As a top performing college, we remain deeply committed to fostering positive progression for every learner. These outcomes highlight the power of education to transform lives and communities, and we are so proud of what our students have accomplished.

To our students: your success is richly deserved. To our staff: thank you for your tireless commitment and belief in every young person.

Together, we continue to raise aspirations, deliver excellence, and change lives.’

Included in this year’s successes is former Newhouse Academy student James Pitts, who achieved A*A*A*A in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. James will be pursuing a degree in Engineering at the University of Oxford. James commented, ‘My time at Rochdale Sixth Form College has taught me that you should never base your ambitions on anyone else’s expectations – only your own. It’s up to you to make the most of the tools and opportunities you are given. The college has supported me every step of the way and I’m incredibly proud of where I’ve come from and I’m looking forward to starting my studies at the University of Oxford’

Students have also been successful in obtaining high-quality apprenticeships and employment across various sectors, including Finance, Law, Public Services, Engineering and Construction. Following a competitive interview process, Imogen Holt has secured a highly sought-after degree apprenticeship with Greater Manchester Police and the University of Salford. This competitive programme will see Imogen combine professional police training with academic study, gaining the skills and experience needed for a successful career in law enforcement. She said, ‘I couldn’t be more grateful for the support I have received from all my teachers, which has allowed me to progress onto my chosen pathway. Overall, I have enjoyed my time at Rochdale Sixth Form College, and I am excited to move onto my future career and see where it takes me.”

We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and wish them every success in the future. We look forward to welcoming them back to RSFC to share their journeys.
