Health and Social Care Students Explore Attachment at Chester Zoo

News - 26 February 2026

Health and Social Care BTEC students recently visited Chester Zoo to deepen their understanding of attachment and psychological theory through real-world observation.

During the visit, students focused on primate social interactions, paying particular attention to mother–infant bonds. Observing these relationships in action enabled them to draw direct links to attachment theories studied in class, enhancing their understanding of how early bonds influence development and behaviour.

Students also applied their knowledge of psychological perspectives, considering whether behaviours observed were learned through environmental influence or rooted in biology. The experience provided a valuable opportunity to connect classroom learning with practical observation, strengthening both analytical skills and subject knowledge.
