Other/Practical
All enrichment related to musicals and sport lasts for 20 weeks. If you choose one of the following options, you will not be able to choose any other enrichment from the programme. Please read the descriptions carefully as details of extra rehearsals and training are given.
Musical - Crew
The Musical Technical Crew Enrichment will provide you with a thorough understanding of what is needed backstage during a live production. You will cover:
Designing and building set
Designing and running lights
Designing and mixing sound, microphone maintenance
Prop making/sourcing
Stage management
Costume design
Make-up and hair
You will build technical skills and knowledge as well as support the musical performance in March 2023.
Musical - Performance
The Musical Theatre enrichment programme provides many opportunities to get involved with a wider range of roles this year. We are looking for students who are not only interested in performing but also in backstage roles to get a taste of a professional working theatre environment. The team that you will work with on these productions all have professional industry experience meaning you will be treated as a professional working to very high standards.
Over the course of 20 weeks, you will put on a professional musical theatre production of choice and perform to a paying audience.
The list of roles available in this enrichment programme are: Cast, Musicians, Backstage Crew (Including Stage Manager, Lighting Operative, Sound Operative, Crew, Props Master, Costume, Make Up, Hair, Follow-Spot Operative). This is a 20-week enrichment programme and includes evenings and some Sunday rehearsals.
Sport - Men's Football
Are you an excellent team player with a passion for football? Join our outstanding football team as part of your enrichment. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop new skills and still have the opportunity to indulge your competitive side. Attend weekly training sessions where you will be coached by highly skilled coaches on a Monday evening from 4-6pm (transport to and from Heywood sports village is provided). Also, you will have the opportunity to represent the college in the North-West College League (NWCL) against other sixth form colleges in the area on Wednesday afternoons. These spaces are strictly limited so sign up and stay active throughout your college experience.
Sport - Women's Football
This enrichment welcomes all abilities; we just ask that you have lots of enthusiasm and are prepared to train outside in all weathers on a Monday evening from 4-6pm (transport to and from Heywood sports village is provided). You will have the opportunity to improve on existing skills, develop new skills and work on fitness. You will be required to have appropriate football boots and shin pads for every session. You will also have the opportunity to experience the variety of football games that exist including 5 and 7-a-side games on Wednesday afternoons. As a minimum, you will have the opportunity to compete in the North-West College’s Sports League, cup competitions and local friendlies. Women's football is a rapidly growing sport, so be part of this exciting opportunity!
Sport - Women's Netball
Come and join in the fast-paced and exciting game of netball... whether you are a club player, want to get back to netball or want to stay active while at college there is a space for you! We will cater for all abilities and aim to develop a competitive team to enter in the College's League. We just ask you have lots of enthusiasm and are prepared to train outside in all weathers on a Monday evening from 4-6pm (transport to and from Heywood sports village is provided). This will develop your skills, keep you fit and relieve stress and give you the chance to take part in regular fixtures, played on Wednesday afternoons. All coach travel for both games and training is provided. Netball is one of the most popular sports in the UK so sign up, develop your skills and have a great time!
Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is a nationally recognised award that is highly valued by universities and employers. During the Gold Award you will choose three volunteering, physical and skill activities to complete each week over a period of 6-18 months. You will also prepare for and complete two expeditions in the Yorkshire Dales over four days and three nights. You will receive support to prepare for these expeditions during sessions in college and on a training weekend in the Peak District. The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is a fantastic opportunity to both develop highly valued skills that will serve you well into the future and have an amazing adventure in the countryside.
